Saving Grace Food Pantry is a local pantry serving an area of Henry County that had not been served by other organizations. Their goal is to serve a minimum of 35 families in need each week. They also discovered there were many homeless in the woods behind the pantry who came to them after the pantry opened in September 2023. Their greatest challenge was having enough food to provide those showing up in need each week.
The Henry County Rotary Club created a service project to collect food and provide awareness of this new Food Pantry Resource in our community. In addition to collecting perishable food items, club members engaged businesses in the community to participate as drop off locations for our monthly collections. .
In addition to collecting food, club members volunteered to stock the shelves and prepare boxes for families to take home with them.
The need for donations was posted on the Saving Grace Food Pantry Facebook Page. After a conversation with the founder we learned they had more people in need than they had food to donate. In addition to increasing donations their goals were to serve a minimum of 35 people in need and to serve those in need a full box of items to prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner .Reaching the goal of serving 35 enables the Food Pantry to apply for food donations from the Atlanta Food Bank.Donations from the Atlanta Food Bank will allow the Saving Grace Food Pantry to continue to serve the growing needs of the community.
