Rotary In Action
The Club partners with FODAC (Friends of Disabled Adults and Children) to collect used durable medical equipment to be refurbished and then donated to those with disabilities and financial need. Saturday August 17, 2024 donations were collected by club volunteers who picked up equipment from people's homes who could not physically deliver to drop off location.
The Henry County Rotary began a relationship with the Henry County School District Superintendent. The Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship was distributed to Henry County high school faculty, students and parents by the Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of the Henry County School District, Mary Elizabeth Davis, PhD.
The Henry County Rotary Club sponsored the 9-11 First Responders free lunch by donating hot dog and hamburger buns
This was our 3rd year serving at Taste of Henry, the annual fundraiser for A Friend's House, Henry County's foster care group home that cares for our community's abused, neglected and abandoned children.
Our club shuttled the elderly and those in need to maneuver through the crowd on golf carts.
Henry County Rotary Club was proud to support the Ultimate Community Baby Shower presented by Ameris Group and Connecting Henry.
Henry County has the highest percentage of low birth weight babies in the state. This creates a significant health risk for both the mother and child. Connecting Henry created a fun educational event to promote maternal health.
The Henry County Rotary Club participated in a joint effort with McDonough businesses to provide 2 truckloads of needed supplies to the area in North Caroline that was most devastated by hurricane Helene.
The Henry County Rotary Club participated in the annual fundraising Character Contest for Ferst Readers.
Children in the Ferst Readers literacy program receive a bookstore-quality, age-specific book and resources mailed to them at home every month until their fifth birthday. This access to books helps create a language-rich environment in the home and gives children a head start at reading before Kindergarten.
The annual Scarecrow Contest on the McDonough Square is a popular monthly long exhibition of crafted scarecrows promoting local companies and organizations. The Henry County Rotary Club entered the contest to gain visibility for the club. We used the theme of the Ferst Readers fundraiser and created Minion scarecrows.
The local non-profit organization Caring For A Cause supplies food for children to take home so they may stay nourished over the weekend. The Henry County Rotary Club collected and donated food items.
During one of our regular luncheons the club met at a Caring For A Cause board members business. We listened to a presentation by the founder of Caring For A Cause, Nikki Rogers-Lennings speak about food insecurities in our community. After the presentation, we assembled 370 bags of food to fill the children's backpacks.

A Friend's House is a group foster home for 24 children.
For our December service project, the Henry County Rotary Club members chose to provide individual gifts from their wish list to the children at A Friend's House.
The community came together for this project. There were multiple drop off locations to collect gently used clothing for Blessings Thrift Store that serves Haven House, a home for survivors of domestic violence. There were 10 SUV's packed with clothing and other items delivered to Blessings. In addition several volunteers worked with the Blessings staff in 3 hour shifts to unload and sort items.
Although we typically have mild winters in Henry County, this winter is projected to be icy and colder than usual.
Our club took on the initiative of collecting Coats for Kids that will be donated to The Shaquille OβNeal Boys & Girls Club of Henry County who serve children in need.
The Henry County Rotary Club Partnered with the Girl Scouts. Earth Day and a Peace Pole installation at a community garden was selected so the girls would learn more about how they can impact Peace on Earth and earn a Girl Scout honor badge for their participation.
Kids In Transition are Henry County high school graduates who are aging out of foster care. In some cases these kids are homeless at graduation. The school district student services department collects and delivers the graduation cards and gifts to these students. This is the second year the Henry County Rotary Club has provided a custom card signed by the members. Each student was also provided a $20 gift card to Kohl's this year.
