Henry County Rotary has been serving our community for nearly 40 years. Our members come from all walks of life and combine to provide a diverse group of servant-minded business leaders. Our mantra of putting “Service Above Self” is easy when you do it alongside some of your best friends. With numerous service projects within our community and abroad, we can assure you that you will find a place to give back and have fun doing it.
This year our Rotary International theme is “Create Hope In The World” and Henry County Rotarians will continue our tradition of making a positive impact in our community. With over 1.4 million members internationally focusing on water/sanitation, mental/child health, basic education/literacy, economic/community development, the environment, disease prevention/treatment and peace and conflict prevention/resolution, you can be assured that Rotary is changing lives in our community and the world. The Food Pantry Director of Operations shared with our club that a group who normally serves their guests on Friday mornings would not be available. Our club pulled together for a volunteer day to pack boxes of food and served about 100 families.
Helping In His Name Ministries Inc (aka, The Food Pantry) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit inter-denominational Christian organization. The Food Pantry serves about 1,100 families each month.
Supporting Connecting Henry’s toy drive has been an ongoing project for the Henry County Rotary Club by providing wrapping paper each year.
This year the Connecting Henry team decided to focus on toys. They shared that their stuffed animals were always a hit and they usually ran short.
This year the club collected bears and other stuffed animals to fill the need.
The stuffed animals were presented to Barbara Coleman, CEO of Connecting Henry Inc.
In addition, the club assisted in setting up the bear table for shopping day. Barbara Coleman gave a brief presentation to the Club about the Toy Shop as well as the many other services Connecting Henry provides.
Although we typically have mild winters in Henry County, this winter is projected to be icy and colder than usual.
Our club took on the initiative of collecting Coats for Kids that will be donated to The Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club of Henry County who serve children in need.
In order to provide new coats, the club reached out to several department stores to donate coats.
Academy Sports provided a $100 gift card to use in the store.
The coats were presented to the local Boys & Girls Club at our regular luncheon on January 8, 2024.
Amelia Davis the Regional Director of the Atlanta Boys & Girls Club provided insight about the services Boys & Girls Clubs provide and how the Henry County Club is reperforming among the Metro Atlanta clubs.
Human Trafficking is a growing scourge in our communities. A joint grant was approved by Rotary International to supply educational information to the Clayton, Spaulding and Henry County school districts.
The Henry County presentation was made on January 10, 2024.
Presentors were Rick Perry, president Henry County Rotary Club; Claudia Mertl, secretary, Atlanta Southern Crescent Rotary Club and Sabrina Crawford, founder, Gigi's House.
Resource kits were provided with information from Shared Hope International to be distributed to middle and high schools in the Henry County School District.
This recycling and educational service event was a way to bring awareness to conveniently protect the environment, the benefits of the Georgia Burn Foundation and as an added bonus instruction on how to save a life before the emergency medical team arrives.
The Club supported the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation by collecting aluminum cans for recycling at the City of McDonough Fire Station, 88 Keys Ferry Rd, McDonough. At the meeting, a member spontaneously suggested collecting funds for the burn foundation. A boot was brought out for the donations. Members donated $178 at the meeting.
The event at the Fire Station was held during a regular luncheon meeting time from 12 pm to 1 pm. An educational tour of the station, how McDonough and Henry County work together in covering fire and emergency calls, along with a hands only CPR demonstration was conducted by Fire Captain Brandon Smith.
The Henry County Rotary Club Partnered with the Girl Scouts. National Arbor Day was selected so the girls would learn more about the value of trees to our environment and earn a Girl Scout honor badge for their participation.
Timothy Daly with the University of Georgia Henry County Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources gave the presentation.
Renfroe Valley Tree Farm and provided seedling trees to each girl.
This partnership was combined with a Family of Rotary event where all Henry County Rotary members and their families are welcome to attend.
The community came together for this project. There were multiple drop off locations to collect gently used clothing for Blessings Thrift Store that serves Haven House, a home for survivors of domestic violence. There were 10 SUV's packed with clothing and other items delivered to Blessings. In addition several volunteers worked with the Blessings staff in 3 hour shifts to unload and sort items.
The Club partnered with FODAC (Friends of Disabled Adults and Children) to collect used durable medical equipment to be refurbished and then donated to those with disabilities and financial need. The drive collected $122,000 in used durable medical equipment on Saturday August 19, 2023 in both donations dropped off and by club volunteers who picked up equipment from people's homes who could not physically deliver to drop off location.
