Fundraiser
Minions Wrap up Ferst Readers Character Contest

We have had so much fun this October as the Rotary "Minions" and as the contest comes to a close we would like to thank all those that voted for The Minions and donated to Ferst Readers of Henry County.  We appreciate all of your support.

For those of you that would still like to help the children of Henry County, reach out directly to Ferst Readers of Henry County to donate.  By doing so you can help provide the building block to a strong learning foundation thru literacy.

Georgia Court of Appeals Judge, John Pipkin III, "Trea" - Former Henry County Rotarian

We were delighted to host Georgia Court of Appeals Judge, John Pipkin III, “Trea” as our guest speaker this week.  Trea shared his career path with us which he attributes to luck along with the ability to gain solid experience early on in his career.  We all know it also took a lot of hard work and it was wonderful to welcome a former Rotarian back to spend some time with us and share his success.  Prior to being an Appeals Court Judge, Trea served in Henry County as a Superior Court Judge and he explained how much it meant to him to serve right here in his hometown.  He never thought he wanted to be a Judge but all along the way doors were opened and unexpected opportunities were presented. Whether luck or divine intervention it’s clear his path thru the Judicial System was meant to be.

A Visit from Henry County Probate Court Judge, Kelly Powell and Associate Judge Katie Fagan

Thank you to Probate Judge Kelley Powell and Associate Judge Katie Fagan for speaking at this week’s meeting.  Their presentation was very interesting and educational.

Probate Court is a constitutionally created office widely known for handling cases like probate of wills, administration of estates of deceased persons, and appointments of guardians or conservatorships of the person and property of incapacitated adults.  However, we learned some additional and more surprising things probate courts also handle such as exhumations for relocation and taxidermy disputes.

Judge Powell described their service as those that cover “life, death and beyond” and that certainly covers a wide range of topics / cases.

Rotary Supports Ferst Readers of Henry County

Rotary supports Ferst Readers of Henry County not only thru their Annual Character Contest dressed as Minions this year but also thru a Scarecrow Minion Display in the Square for the month of October.  The display also features a QR code to take viewers to the Character Contest where they can vote for their favorite character (Minions of course).  Each vote = a $10 donation to support literacy thru Ferst Readers of Henry County.

Ferst Readers of Henry County offers free books to children 0-5 years old. “Reading aloud to your children is not only one of the best activities to stimulate language and cognitive skills, it also builds motivation, curiosity and memory.”

You can help by voting for our Characters- Minions in this year’s Character Contest.  Vote/donate today to help excessive our children’s minds and build a brighter future.
